Saskia Beer was one of the jury members of the ARC20 Awards for Urban Design. We see that urban designers more and more often have to deal with complex (transformation and redevelopment) projects in existing urban areas that require a different and more adaptive design approach (e.g. designing conditions, guidelines, multiple scenarios) and a conscious and strategic attitude within the complex dynamics and force field in which the design has to be realised. The jury agreed that it will be very interesting to see how many of these designs will play out in the physical world in the coming years.
